Have you ever heard of Firefall? Many people I’ve talked with recently have never heard of this yearly event. Well, it is apparently becoming popular. Yosemite is only allowing people in during this event who’ve reserved somewhere to stay or those who’ve reserved a spot to view Firefall from Horsetail Falls!
I’ve reserved a place to stay two nights, three days in the park and plan to walk around or ride my mountain bike to do all my shooting.
Needless to say, I am so looking forward to this trip to shoot photos of Horsetail Falls. The water of Horsetail Falls glows bright orangish yellow from the sun setting and shining through Yosemite Valley as it falls from the cliffs 2,030 feet down the eastern side of El Capitan. This event only happens in winter during the month of February for two weeks. This year it should be glowing brightly between from the 12th to 24th, weather permitting. I am heading there the 15th-17th, so I should be able to view this once-in-a-lifetime event pending cloudy skies. So pray for clear skies!
The last time I was in Yosemite back in 2018 in March, we saw snow, rain, fog, partly cloudy skies and sunny weather the 3 days there. The following week the valley flooded due to torrential rains. The three days we were there was an amazing experience and I can’t wait to see how it’ll turn out this time. I should capture some amazing footage!

I plan to shoot not only Horsetail Falls, but other areas of Yosemite to capture some breathtaking prints. With the equipment I have now, I should get super sharp images no matter what lighting I get to work with.
