Drive and Nature Hike in Fairbanks

Drive and Nature Hike in Fairbanks

Today, we went on a little nature hike through Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge and saw lots of geese. We wandered around the refuge through the wetlands hoping to see a moose, but had no such luck probably because there are many people hiking and running through the area. The moose come out at night when fewer people are around and it’s beginning to get dark. Sunset doesn’t come to Fairbanks right now until just before 8pm.

After hiking around there for about 2 hours, we got back in the 2011 Chevy Suburban I’m driving around (an Avis upgrade from the mini-van I had planned to rent) and drove over and around a small mountain surveying Fairbanks from higher ground. At the top of this little mountain, it was raining. The temperature was 41˚F, a little too warm to actually snow. After driving the Farmers Loop, we headed back to the place we are staying…Dale and Jo View Suites B&B …on the outskirts of Fairbanks. It’s a very beautiful place to stay; close enough to do grocery shopping by car and located far enough outside the city away from light pollution to view the aurora.

We have not seen the aurora yet though, not because of our location, but because it is considered Quiet right now. It will, however, become Active tomorrow, so we might be able to see it early this morning, but should have no problem seeing it later tomorrow night and the next night no matter where we are in Fairbanks.

Everyone in the group is excited about tomorrow! I pray we get great weather! Please pray with me!

On another note, we did shopping this morning for food and before that, we went to a local church for about 20 minutes. They had an amazing band and sound system. It was like going to a rock concert!
